Spring is in the air, and it is now time to start planting. Early soybeans and a lot of corn have been planted so far. Although we could use some moisture soon, we have had a good start to the season. Fertilizer has been readily available and at least prices are down some from where they were in the previous recent years. We have also had access to some 24 ton tenders this year, which makes it very easy for producers to load these new large spreaders. Although we only have a few, they are open for use as they are available when needed.
Farmers Peanut Market, Inc. recently held a production meeting where we introduced the availability of some new products, including a pelleted lime that has the potential to move the pH needle in as little as two weeks. Although more expensive than traditional lime, having an almost immediate effect could prove to be very beneficial and worth the extra cost.
